From the Northeast
corner of Oklahoma, travel old Route 66 across the state and out the
western border. Oklahoma has done a better job than all the
other states keeping the old road in tact and drivable. A myriad
of old 66 relics, hot spots, tourist attractions etc. A great ride!

Bail off Highway 412 just east of Kansas, Oklahoma and turn
south on Scenic Highway 10. Enjoy 30 miles of smooth paved
twisty turning roads through the woods that parallel the beautiful
clear Illinois River. Catch glimpses through the trees of the
canoe and raft adventurers as they forge the river. Plenty of
campgrounds along the road with canoe and raft outfitters if you need
to take a break from the bike and cool down. From Tahlequah
decisions have to be made. Tenkiller lake 10 miles. Sequoyah
State Park near Ft. Gibson Lake 18 miles.

While on
State Hwy 82 pulling into Peggs turn south on CR -N4420, which is
the only country road going due south out of Peggs. Ride 14
miles of great scenic country roads turning quickly to wooded twisty
roads and pass thru Lost City and wind your way to Hulbert.
Make a right on hwy 51 for about a quarter mile then turn south on
the state hwy 80 also affectionately called "14 Mile Road".
On one of the many occasions I have slipped away on this lonely road
I counted 103 turns in its 14 miles. Beautiful wooded campgrounds
below the Dam with full hook ups, ie water, electric, showers.
Campground is surrounded by Grand River below the dam on one
side and beatiful wooded bluffs on west side giving great shade from
the afternoon sun. The campground is called

Head north from Salina, Oklahoma. A great smooth road,
country scenic turning to woods. The last six miles is very
twisty. Exhilerating! From there you can follow hwy 20
toward Jay then take 28 to the Dam at Disney on Grand Lake O' The
Cherokee. Beautiful homes and condos line the shoreline at the
dam. $$$ Or out of Spavinaw follow 82 toward Langley and
then to Dam at Disney. Spavinaw State Park has beautiful river
with fishing and campgrounds. Spavinaw Dam is scenic.
Plenty of Mom and Pop places to eat in Langley and Disney. Also
look into the Cherokee Queen for an old fashion river paddle boat
style tour of the lake.

the south end of Tenkiller and on to Gore.

South of Muskogee
below I-40 is the small town of Porum. Take highway 2 south
and enjoy the beautiful landscape and country scenery as you glide
through Whitefield and Kinta. Join highway 31 heading west for
a few miles then peel off again turning south on highway 2 as it gradually
guides you up and over, around and through Blue Mountain of the Ouachita
National Forest. (pronounced Washita) Stop in at Robbers
Cave State Park and enjoy some hiking trails or horseback riding or
take a walk up to the cave. Continue south on 2 through Wilberton
and enjoy the great sweeping twisty's of the mountain range clear
down to Highway 1 and Buffalo Valley. Follow Highway 1 east
to Talihina and do the famous Talimena Scenic Byway or turn north
on 82 before Talihina and and take in more of the same wonderful
scenery and twisty's going back toward Red Oak and finally Lequire.
